The article examines the role of multimodal transportation and transit potential in improving the transport and logistics efficiency of Uzbekistan. As a landlocked country, Uzbekistan depends on international transport corridors, the infrastructure of neighbouring states, and border-crossing procedures, which makes the coordination of road, rail, and combined transport a decisive factor of foreign-trade competitiveness. The study reviews the structure of the country’s main transport corridors, summarizes its position within the World Bank Logistics Performance Index, and proposes an integral efficiency index that brings together the cost, time, reliability, multimodality, digitalization and carbon-emission factors of alternative transport modes onto a single methodological basis. A comparative calculation for the Tashkent–Poti corridor shows that the multimodal (rail + ferry) option, despite a longer delivery time, reduces the unit logistics cost and emissions relative to the all-road option. The results justify the development of dry ports, multimodal terminals, digital tracking and harmonized border procedures as priority directions.References
