Abstract
This article examines the formation factors, architectural-spatial solutions, and socio-cultural foundations of traditional housing using the case study of Margilan, a city that holds a distinctive place in the historical urban planning culture of Uzbekistan. Within the scope of the research, the influence of Margilan’s specific climatic conditions, traditional applied arts, craftsmanship, and family-domestic lifestyle on residential architecture is analyzed from a scientific perspective. Furthermore, the compositional structure of traditional courtyard houses (hovli), the functional purpose of premises, and their interconnectedness with the social structures of urban planning are highlighted. The conclusions and recommendations presented in the article serve to enrich the methodology of preserving the architectural environment of historical cities and effectively utilizing traditional architectural elements through transformation in modern residential design practices.
