THE ENTROPY OF THE DESERT AND THE FORMS OF ETERNITY: IGOR SAVITSKIY’S PHILOSOPHY OF FEAT

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of the "Turkestan avant-garde" through the lens of Igor Savitsky's unique curatorial practice. It explores the metaphysical synthesis of radical European modernism and the sacred traditions of the East. Using the Nukus State Museum of Arts as an example, it analyzes the concept of a cultural code that unites the archaeology of Khorezm, Karakalpak applied arts, and banned Soviet art. Particular attention is paid to the concept of "inner freedom" as the basis for intellectual resistance to totalitarian dictates. The collection's journey is traced from isolation in the Kyzylkum desert to global recognition at the 2017 exhibition at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, demonstrating the triumph of sovereign creative will over historical oblivion.
