IMPACT OF COMPREHENSIVE BLOOD PRESSURE CONTROL ON STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL CARDIAC PARAMETERS AND CARDIOVASCULAR RISK IN PATIENTS WITH ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

Abstract
Modern management strategies for patients with arterial hypertension (AH) involve not only lowering blood pressure (BP) but also comprehensively addressing the constellation of cardiovascular risk factors and detecting target organ damage at an early stage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive BP control strategy in patients with AH and to determine the relationship between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and the left ventricular mass index (LVMI). The study involved 120 patients with AH aged 40–69 years, divided into two comparable groups of 60 individuals each. The main group underwent a comprehensive strategy comprising antihypertensive therapy, risk factor management, dietary and physical activity recommendations, and home BP monitoring. Baseline SBP was 158.4 ± 1.52 mmHg in the main group and 159.1 ± 1.58 mmHg in the comparison group. After 6 months of follow-up, SBP decreased to 132.6 ± 1.25 mmHg and 145.7 ± 1.41 mmHg, respectively. The difference in absolute SBP reduction between the groups was 13.8 mmHg (t=7.21; p<0.001). A moderate positive correlation was found between baseline SBP and LVMI (r=0.46; t=5.63; p<0.001).
