Abstract

In this article, the global health significance of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection, its genotypes, transmission routes, and modern approaches to treatment are highlighted. The article provides a broad analysis of the epidemiology of HCV infection, the structure of the virion and genome, and the negative impact of the virus on liver function. In particular, the effectiveness of directly acting antiviral (DAA) therapy, their effects on different genotypes, and their advantages over interferon-based therapy are discussed. The necessity of screening, diagnosis, prevention, and continuous monitoring on the way to achieving the goals set by the WHO for complete elimination of HCV is substantiated. Special attention is also given to issues such as resistance related to DAA therapy, the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and monitoring through non-invasive biomarkers.
