Abstract

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most aggressive malignant neoplasms of the abdominal organs, characterized by an extremely poor prognosis due to late diagnosis and a high metastatic potential [4], [5]. The five-year survival rate for all stages of the disease does not exceed 11–12%, whereas when detected at stage I it reaches 37–42%, which determines the paramount importance of early diagnosis [1]. The leading instrumental methods for detecting PC are multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) with multiphase contrast enhancement, magnetic resonance imaging with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRI/MRCP), and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), providing sensitivity of 81–94% and specificity of 82–90% [9], [11]. The serum marker CA 19-9, despite its limited sensitivity in stages I–II (62–82%), remains important in screening high-risk groups [6]. In the present study, a comprehensive analysis of the diagnostic capabilities of the main imaging methods was carried out in 65 patients with histologically verified pancreatic cancer at various stages. It was demonstrated that the use of a multidisciplinary diagnostic algorithm increases the detection rate of resectable tumor forms up to 66.2% [8], [2].
