Abstract

This study investigated the acute toxicity and antihypoxic activity of fluorocurarine bromide in white laboratory mice. Upon intraperitoneal administration of the drug to mice at doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg, it was established that the dose of 50 mg/kg caused 100% mortality of the animals, while the dose of 25 mg/kg was the maximum tolerated dose. In the model of hypoxia induced by sodium nitroprusside, fluorocurarine bromide at doses of 1–10 mg/kg significantly increased the survival time of mice, showing a pharmacological effect comparable to that of piracetam. In the model of hypoxia induced by sodium nitrite, however, the drug did not exhibit a pronounced corrective effect. The obtained results indicate that fluorocurarine bromide in the studied doses is relatively safe and may possess antihypoxic activity in tissue-metabolic hypoxia.
