This article analyzes the historical development of maps–from the earliest hand-drawn representations to modern digital and interactive maps. It examines the significance of the first maps created during ancient civilizations, the formation of cartography as a scientific discipline in the Middle Ages, and the advancement of this field to a new stage in the era of digital technologies. The article also discusses the role of GIS systems, GPS technology, and satellite data in cartography. It emphasizes that maps are not only tools for navigation but also important products of human thought and scientific progress.References
