ECOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR THE CONSERVATION OF MAMMALIAN BIODIVERSITY IN THE LOWER AMUDARYA REGION

Abstract

This article analyzes the ecological foundations for the conservation of mammalian biodiversity in the Lower Amudarya region. Particular attention is given to the importance of tugai ecosystems as mammalian habitats, species diversity, habitat requirements, and ecological relationships. The effects of changes in the water regime, habitat fragmentation, anthropogenic pressure, and climate change on populations of the Bukhara deer and other mammals are examined. The study emphasizes the importance of habitat restoration, conservation of ecological corridors, reduction of anthropogenic pressure, and application of modern monitoring methods. It is concluded that effective mammal conservation requires not only the protection of individual species but also the integrated conservation and restoration of the Lower Amudarya tugai ecosystems.
