RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF CRIMINAL LAW PROVISIONS PROVIDING FOR EXEMPTION FROM PUNISHMENT

Abstract
This article provides a retrospective analysis of the history and development stages of the institution of exemption from punishment in criminal legislation. In particular, the specific features of the institutions of replacing punishment with a lighter one and parole (early conditional release), as reflected in the Criminal Codes of 1926, 1959, and 1994, are comparatively examined. The article also highlights the trends of liberalization and further development of these institutions based on the principles of humanism in current legislation. Scientific proposals and conclusions aimed at improving the institution of exemption from punishment are presented.
