REFERENTIAL FEATURES OF ANTHROPONYMS: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK
Main Article Content
Аннотация:
Anthroponyms, as proper nouns denoting human beings, are central to the study of semantics and pragmatics due to their referential function. This study examines the referential features of personal names in English and Uzbek, highlighting similarities and divergences shaped by linguistic, cultural, and social factors. Drawing on theoretical perspectives from Frege, Russell, and Kripke, alongside contemporary Uzbek onomastic studies, the analysis emphasizes the interplay between uniqueness, context-dependence, and cultural encoding in personal names. The findings underscore the role of anthroponyms not only as identifiers but also as carriers of social and cultural meaning, providing insight into cross-linguistic referential mechanisms.
