PHONETIC DISTINCTIONS ACROSS ENGLISH VARIETIES
Main Article Content
Аннотация:
This article explores the phonetic distinctions across major varieties of English, specifically British, American, and Australian English. It investigates how historical, social, and linguistic factors influence the pronunciation, articulation, and prosody of these varieties. Through a comparative analysis of segmental (vowels and consonants) and suprasegmental (stress, intonation) features, the study highlights key phonetic variations that define each variety. The research also considers the role of globalization in accent convergence, noting the dynamic and evolving nature of these distinctions. The findings suggest that while these phonetic features are distinct, they are influenced by both historical developments and ongoing sociolinguistic processes, providing deeper insights into the relationship between language and identity.
