Abstract

The global travel and tourism industry is at a defining moment. After the profound disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector has not only recovered but has been rapidly reshaped by a new set of priorities that place sustainability and responsibility at its core. Ecotourism — defined by the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education" — has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel market.
