This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the lexical characteristics of Australian English and their sources. The study sheds light on the historical development of Australian English lexicon, the foundations of British English, the influence of Aboriginal languages, and the role of socio-cultural factors. Additionally, the distinctive features of Australisms, abbreviations, colloquial, and slang vocabulary are illustrated with examples. The special importance of lexical units borrowed from Aboriginal languages is emphasized, and their role in the formation of Australian English as a national variant is substantiated. The article serves as an important scientific resource for the study of regional variants of the English language.References
