This thesis analyzes the importance of procedural time limits at the pre-trial stage of criminal proceedings from the perspective of international legal standards for the protection of human rights. Particular attention is paid to detention, judicial control over pre-trial custody, the right to legal defense, the requirement to conduct proceedings within a reasonable time, and guarantees against unjustified restriction of personal liberty. The paper argues that procedural time limits are not merely an organizational and legal mechanism of criminal procedure, but also an essential guarantee of the right to liberty, the presumption of innocence, and fair trial rights.References
