Abstract

This scientific thesis examines the pragmatic and communicative significance of modal verbs in effective English communication. The study demonstrates that modal verbs function not only as grammatical structures but also as essential linguistic instruments expressing speaker attitude, politeness, certainty, obligation, and probability. Furthermore, the paper comparatively analyzes the usage of modal verbs such as “can,” “may,” “must,” “should,” and “might” within academic, social, and professional discourse.
