This paper examines the challenges of sustainable groundwater resource management and its protection against environmental and chemical degradation under the pressures of global climate change, transboundary river runoff reduction, and rapid urbanization. Deterministic and hydrodynamic criteria for evaluating exploitable groundwater reserves using balance and analytical methods are evaluated. Furthermore, mathematical modeling approaches for delineating Source Protection Zones (SPZs) around wells are analyzed.References
