Abstract

This article discusses the psychological essence of the concepts of sensation and perception, their role in the human cognitive process, and their interrelationships. The main characteristics, types, and main theories of sensation and perception formed in the history of psychology are analyzed. In particular, the content, advantages, and disadvantages of associative, reflective, gestalt, empirical, and rationalistic theories are comparatively considered. The significance of sensation and perception in human thinking, memory, and activity is also substantiated. The research reveals the important role of sensation and perception in understanding the human psyche.
