Abstract

This article conceptually analyzes the socio-legal nature of the concept of “citizen” through the prism of the theory of state and law, the dynamics of its transformation within the historical context, and the intrinsic connection between a citizen and the “homeland.” The study examines the evolution of the legal status of an individual from the ancient era, through social contract theories, to modern democratic models, Furthermore, the paper elucidates the criteria of patriotism as the moral-psychological foundation of the institution of citizenship within the framework of legal duties and the concept of “constitutional patriotism.”
