DIALECTAL LEXIS AND ITS OCCURRENCE IN TOPONYMS (Based on the Materials of Kashkadarya Region)

Abstract
It is well known that dialectal lexis serves as a valuable source in the formation of regional toponyms. In this respect, the study of toponyms is important because they reflect the characteristics of local dialects and preserve lexical units that are gradually disappearing from everyday speech. Therefore, investigating them enables us to answer many questions in dialectological research. This article examines the lexical-semantic features and toponym-forming potential of certain lexical units specific to local dialects that have been preserved within the toponyms of the Kashkadarya region.
