This article highlights the influence of depression on the process of philosophical thinking. Depression encourages a person to delve deeper into questions about the meaning of life, existence, values, and inner experiences. Many famous philosophers throughout history – such as Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus, and Sartre – developed new philosophical directions under the influence of depressive mental states, exploring human existence, freedom, and the essence of life.
