INJURY PREVENTION IN ATHLETICS: A COMPREHENSIVE SCIENTIFIC REVIEW

Main Article Content

Abstract:

Athletic participation, while offering profound physical and psychological benefits, is inherently associated with a substantial risk of injury. These injuries pose significant challenges to athlete health, performance longevity, and impose considerable healthcare burdens. This article provides a comprehensive scientific review of injury prevention in athletics, synthesizing current understanding of injury epidemiology, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors, and evidence-based prevention strategies. We examine the efficacy of various interventions, including neuromuscular training, strength and conditioning, proper training load management, and the role of equipment and nutritional support. Hypothetical results from simulated meta-analyses and program evaluations are presented to illustrate the potential impact and challenges in implementation. The discussion emphasizes a holistic, multi-faceted approach to injury prevention, acknowledging the complexities of athlete physiology and sporting environments. The conclusion underscores the imperative for continuous research, integrated prevention programs, and collaborative efforts among athletes, coaches, medical professionals, and sports organizations to safeguard athlete well-being and optimize performance.
