This article explores the main types of English dictionaries, focusing on their structure, purpose, and usage. Dictionaries are essential tools for language learners, educators, translators, and writers, offering a variety of information including definitions, pronunciations, grammar, and usage. The paper classifies English dictionaries into several categories, such as monolingual, bilingual, learner’s, specialized, and historical dictionaries. Each type serves a distinct function and caters to different user needs. Understanding these categories enables users to select the most appropriate dictionary for their linguistic and academic tasks.
