Аннотация

This article examines the role of word choice in creating atmosphere in Emily Brontë’s novel Wuthering Heights. The study focuses on how lexical selection related to nature, emotion, violence, and Gothic elements contributes to the dark, intense, and dramatic mood of the novel. Through an analysis of descriptive language and contrasting settings, the article demonstrates that Brontë’s careful use of words plays a crucial role in shaping the emotional impact of the narrative and revealing the psychological states of the characters. Special attention is given to the relationship between language and setting, showing how diction reflects both the external environment and the inner conflicts of the characters. The study also highlights word choice as a key stylistic device in Gothic literature.
