PILOT-SCALE INDUSTRIAL TESTING OF A COMPOSITE SORBENT DEVELOPED FOR THE TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER CONTAMINATED WITH PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

This paper presents the results of pilot-scale industrial testing of a composite sorbent developed on the basis of lignocellulosic raw materials for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with petroleum products. The main technological stages of the treatment process, including mechanical separation, sorption, and desorption, were investigated, and their efficiency was evaluated under conditions close to industrial operation. It was established that the use of an oil separator ensures the removal of 60–80% of petroleum products during the preliminary treatment stage, while subsequent sorption treatment reduces the residual concentration of pollutants to the regulatory level of ≤ 2 mg/L. The sorption capacity of the composite sorbent, regeneration parameters, and steam consumption during the desorption process were determined. Sorbents based on peanut shells and wood chips were shown to exhibit high sorption activity and stable regeneration properties. The degree of sorbent regeneration was found to reach 80–91%, contributing to reduced consumption of fresh sorbent material and improved resource-saving efficiency of the technology. The obtained results confirm the promising potential of the developed technology for application in industrial wastewater treatment systems containing petroleum contaminants
